Today Ellen and I helped out our professor and planted some flowers in his flower beds. Having this community garden helps us make connections with different individuals from around Reading. Also by helping out our professor we will meet other interesting people who may also need some assistance (whether that would be gardening or other random jobs). Interacting with other people is one way permaculture benefits everyone. There are always people out there who are willing to help us or want a few cheap organic cucumbers. Whatever the case may be….planting your own food is a wonderful rewarding experience.
AND we are working on a list of local businesses that could possibly benefit from our produce. Maybe next year we will also be able to sell our food to businesses around Reading and vise versa for them.
By learning how to sustain ourselves we all can transition from dependent consumers to responsible producers.
